Founded in 1584 by Cardinal Carlo Borromeo, thanks to the bequest of Bartolomeo Papio, the College boasts a centuries-long history, marked by various religious managements, including that of the Benedictines of Einsiedeln, who gave new impetus to the institute in the 1920s. Since 1965 it has been under the guidance of the Diocese of Lugano.
Today, the Collegio Papio offers a parochial secondary school, a high school with a Swiss Matura, the Passerella route and a tailor-made curriculum for students with special talents - sportsmen, musicians or others.
