A new training opportunity
With the introduction, in 2023, of the new Italian Maturità course, we wanted to respond to increasingly differentiated educational needs. While remaining faithful to its centuries-old tradition, the Italian Maturità broadens the College's educational offerings, proposing a curriculum that is less markedly scientific and more in-depth in the humanities.
A choice that opens horizons
The Italian Maturità combines Papio's high educational quality with the solidity of the Italian academic tradition, allowing access to many universities in Switzerland and abroad.
We also place the personal and academic growth of each student at the centre of this pathway, accompanying them on an individual basis so that they can fully develop their skills and face future challenges with confidence.
Route Structure
Students can undertake two four-year courses:
- Linguistic Maturity: with focus on Italian, English, French, German and Latin
- Matura Human Sciences - Economic and Social Option: with disciplines such as Law, Economics and Human Sciences
Common subjects include history, philosophy, mathematics, natural sciences and many others, complemented by sports activities, assisted study and an interdisciplinary approach.
Recognition and validity
The procedure for recognition of scholastic parity is underway with the competent authorities in Rome. Pending final approval, the students will sit an aptitude exam at an equal school chosen by the College. Students will take an aptitude exam for the next class at state or parity high schools in the provinces of Varese and Como or at the Liceo Vermigli in Zurich.

The Liceo di Maturità Italiana is a four-year course designed for students who want a comprehensive, international and future-oriented education.

Liceo delle Scienze Umane - Economic and Social Option
Course for those who wish to develop and deepen economic and social skills through the disciplines of psychology, sociology, cultural anthropology, law and economics, forming students capable of understanding contemporary society.
Solid preparation for future careers in social work, education, law, business and the humanities.
In both addresses, the scientific disciplines are developed in a didactic perspective for the citizenship to be able to make conscious choices in everyday life.

- Preparatory course: introduction to studying for a confident transition to high school.
- Tutor in ninth grade: dedicated support for new students to facilitate their smooth integration.
- Indoor sports facilities: gym and swimming pool to maintain a balance between body and mind.
- Customised support: support teachers for those with special educational needs.
- Coordinated repetitions: organised by the student committee, in support of their comrades.
Students at the Collegio Papio can enjoy a canteen service that offers well-prepared, healthy and quality meals. The food is carefully selected, respecting strict controls concerning the origin and traceability of the products. The service is guaranteed by the Fourchette Verte Ticino label, which certifies the commitment to healthy and sustainable cuisine.

Residents of the municipality of Ascona for at least 20 months can apply for a municipal grant. The application form can be collected from our secretariat or directly from the municipality of Ascona. The application for a contribution must be submitted every year.
